It was a cold, frosty, snowy day today. So the girls and I decided to make some penguins. I love recycled crafts. Particularly egg carton crafts. They’re so simple, you don’t need need to buy anything extra and the result is always awesome.
Our penguins turned out looking totally adorable and the girls had tons of fun making them.
What you need to make recycled egg carton penguins:
1. Egg carton pieces
2. Scissors
3. Craft glue
4. Black paint (I love these washable Crayola paints, perfect for doing crafts with kids who will inevitably get the paint everywhere!)
5. White, orange and black construction paper
6. Googly eyes
How to make egg carton penguins:
Start off by cutting out pieces from the egg carton.
Next, paint them black. Leave it to dry for about 5-10 minutes.
Use the white paper to cut out the penguin’s tummy. Use the orange paper to make triangle shaped beaks. And then cut out two orange feet for each penguin. Like this:
Now start gluing it all onto the penguin. Start off by sticking the eyes and then the tummy. Our tummy was too big so we snipped it off till it fit the penguin’s body. Then stick the beak where the tummy starts off from. Lastly, make a flap for each foot and stick it to the bottom of the penguin. You should end up with something that looks like this.
The penguin looks pretty darn cute at this stage so if you’re short on time then this is great as is. If you’d like to go the extra mile, try adding some flappy arms!
Taking some black craft paper, cut out two pieces in the shape of a leaf and then cut a straight line across one end. Stick on the arms and tadaa…
Your frosty friends are ready! My daughter has named them Icy and Sliper.
This is a great craft to do with kids of various ages. It can make for a super fun toddler activity for kids aged 2-3 with a bit of supervision and help from your side. It’s also an easy kids craft for kids aged 4-10 who would love to do this independently and feel proud at being able to use something as simple as an egg carton to create something so special.
As an adult, let me tell you I had a BLAST making this with my kids. Please stay tuned for more egg carton crafts from us…
