Starting a blog was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I took ages to make the decision to start one but once I finally did, my only regret was not taking action sooner.
I want to talk to you about blog niches but first, let me tell a bit about my blogging story.
MY BLOGGING JOURNEY
Before I became a blogger, I was a stay at home mom working as a freelance writer.
I loved the flexibility of freelancing – I could choose the clients I wanted to work with and how much work load I wanted to take on.
Freelancing is a great option in particular for stay at home moms.
BUT I also dreamt of having a passive income stream.
A kind of earning which wasn’t dependent on my time in exchange for money.
My goal was to make an extra $100 – $500 in my spare time.
I started searching for the term “passive income ideas online” and “flexible side hustles for moms” .
That’s when I stumbled on the term blogging.
WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT BLOGGING
At that time, this is what I thought about blogging: it’s for people who have exciting lives and want to share their life with other people and get fame and money in exchange.
And I knew that wasn’t me.
I wasn’t living a particularly exciting life and I certainly did NOT want to be sharing my life with random people all over the internet.
I am a super private person and was not at all comfortable sharing pictures of myself and especially of my children with strangers.
But the term “blogging” had gotten my attention and that’s when I started reading income reports of other bloggers.
I was totally blown away at the numbers!
I started studying these bloggers. They were all ordinary people with average writing skills and yet, many of them were earning anywhere from $10,000-$50,000/ month!
ALSO, so many of these bloggers were super private about their personal lives.
I got really excited at the realisation that I could start a blog anonymously.
So that’s what I did.
STARTING MY BLOG
I started looking for “how to start a profitable blog” tutorials. I found some great ones and I started my blog.
I started an anonymous blog (the blog you are reading right now) and no one except my husband knew about it.
It felt amazing. It felt liberating.
I could just write my heart out, experiment with this whole blogging thing and have no pressure on me at all that people are watching me.
I made SO MANY BLOGGING MISTAKES along the way.
But the important thing was I started.
I took the first step of getting my blog set up in under 15 minutes and everything just flowed from there.

MAKING MONEY BLOGGING
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, meaning if you decide to make a purchase via my links, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Honestly, my goal had been to make an extra few hundred dollars a month from my blog.
In the first few months, I didn’t make any money.
I wrote blog posts and I shared them. Nothing happened.
But I wasn’t worried. Everything I had read about blogging from experts had told me that when you start blogging, you don’t make any money in the beginning. As you build your traffic (the visitors coming to your site) that’s when the money flows in.
I worked on writing solid blog posts and getting traffic to my site. And it worked!
From making my first 10 cents, to making my first $5 from my blog, I got to my goal of making $100 a month from my blog. That soon increased to $500/month.
But it didn’t stop there.
Once your blog picks up momentum, the profit each month keeps increasing and you start going from hundreds to thousands of dollars in profit.
I never ever dreamt that my tiny, unknown little mom blog would ever be making thousands of dollars in passive income.
It seems surreal for me to believe that someone like me – un tech savvy and a total newbie to this whole “making money online” thing could have made it this far.
But honestly, this blogging journey has been nothing short of amazing for me. I’ve learnt some amazing skills along the way and I absolutely love the freedom and flexibility I get to enjoy because of it.
There are no deadlines. There is no boss breathing down my neck.
I can just decide for myself that I don’t feel like working for a few weeks and the money will still flow in regardless.
If that’s not cool, what is?
If you’re reading this post, I’m guessing you are where I was a few years ago.
You’re on the fence about starting your blog. And all I can say is: GET STARTED.
Literally my only regret about blogging is not having started sooner. I wasted more than a year contemplating and planning and deciding. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Now that my blogging story is out of the way, let’s get into profitable blog niches.
Choosing the right blog niche makes all the difference. It’s the literally the FOUNDATION of any successful blog that makes money.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT BLOG NICHE
One of the biggest mistakes aspiring bloggers make is choosing the wrong niche.
Your blog niche is more than just a topic you’re interested in—it’s the cornerstone of your blog’s potential success.
The wrong niche can mean low traffic, limited monetization options, and ultimately, no income.
If no one’s searching for what you’re writing about, you’ll never make money.
A profitable blog niche not only aligns with your interests but also has demand and the ability to generate income.
That’s why choosing the right one from the start is so essential.
Here’s how you can identify a profitable blog niche that helps you not only get traffic but also earn revenue.
4 Steps to Choosing a Profitable Blog Niche
1. Choose What You Are Passionate About
The first step to picking a blog niche is to select something you’re passionate about. You don’t need to be an expert, but you should have enough interest to dive into research and stay two steps ahead of your readers. The passion will sustain you during the times when you’re building your blog but not yet making money.
For example, if you love parenting, you could start a blog about parenting toddlers or homeschooling. Passion keeps you motivated, which is critical when growing your blog.
2. Choose an Evergreen Topic
When picking a niche, make sure it’s evergreen. An evergreen topic is one that remains relevant over time and doesn’t go out of style. This ensures that your blog posts continue to get traffic long after they’re published.
Examples of evergreen topics include: health, fitness, finance, parenting, home organization.
For instance, writing about “potty training your toddler” is evergreen because parents are always looking for advice on this topic, year after year.
3. Choose a Topic That People Are Interested In
It’s not enough to be passionate about a topic—you need to ensure that people are actively searching for it.
A great way to verify this is by searching for keywords on Google and Pinterest.
Google and Pinterest are the two main ways I drive traffic to my blog. These are the two most sustainable ways to get people to your blog.
That’s why it is super important that whatever you plan to blog about should have high search on these platforms.
Tools like Google Keyword Planner, UberSuggest, or Pinterest Trends can help you determine if there’s a demand for your chosen topic.
For example, if you’re passionate about vegan cooking, search “vegan meal prep” on Google or Pinterest.
If you see lots of results and pins, that’s a good sign the topic has an audience and can drive traffic to your blog.
4. Niche Down for Better Traffic and Ranking
Once you’ve chosen a broad topic, it’s time to niche down. Niching down means selecting a specific area within your broad topic.
This helps you stand out in search results, attract a more focused audience, and rank higher on Google.
When you niche down, you can always expand later once you’ve established yourself.
For instance, instead of blogging about “health” you could focus on “healthy meal ideas for moms” or “at home pilates for women.”
This gives your blog a unique angle and makes it easier for people to find you in the Google and Pinterest search engines.

I can’t decide what to blog about
Almost anyone I know hesitates to start a blog because a) they can’t decide what to blog about and b) they can’t decide what to name their blog.
I spent a year contemplating on both.
A YEAR.
Indecision literally paralyzes you.
Here’s what I wish I had done.
I wish I’d just gone ahead and spent 15 minutes starting my blog. Then I wish I’d given myself 2 days to come up with my blog niche and blog name.
And then given myself a few days to buy a super pretty theme for my blog like this one here and make it look really professional.
Then I could have just started writing blog posts, getting traffic and making money!
If you are passionate about starting a money making blog but feel crippled by indecision regarding your blog niche and blog name, then here is what I want you to do.
BREAK DOWN THE STEPS.
