Here is a super simple and easy kids craft that you can make using egg cartons. These recycled lady bugs turned out looking so cute and they’re a perfect activity to do with kids in preschool or kindergarten.
If you’ve been following along, you know my 6 year old is off from school and we’ve been OBSESSED with making egg carton crafts. So far we’ve made a caterpillar, some cute penguins and a turtle.
These egg carton animals can be used in so many ways! Your kids can give them names and take them on pretend adventures. You can use an old shoe box and let your kids make their animal friends a house in it.
You can also use these to decorate a classroom if you’re a teacher or hang them up with a string in your child’s bedroom. The possibilities are endless!
What You Need to Make a Recycled Egg Carton Lady Bug
1. Egg carton
2. Scissors
3. Craft glue
4. Red paint (I love these washable Crayola paints, perfect for doing crafts with kids who will inevitably get the paint everywhere!)
5. Googly eyes
6. 1 black Pom Pom
7. Black construction paper
8. 1 Red pipe cleaner
How to Make a Egg Carton Lady Bug
1. Cut an empty egg carton piece. You’ll need one piece for each lady bug. Egg cartons are a bit tough to cut so its best to do this yourself and let your kids do the rest. This one’s a great craft scissor for adult.
2. Paint the egg carton cube red. Wait until it’s totally dry.
3. While your egg carton dries up, take the black pom pom and stick the googley eyes on it.
4. Take a pipe cleaner and make it into the shape of an eight. This will be the lady bug’s wings. Then use black construction paper to make small circles and stick these on the pipe cleaner.
5. Use glue to stick the Pom Pom and the pipe cleaner to the egg carton like this :
6. Take a black marker and make tiny black dots all over the red egg carton.
She ended up looking so adorable but my daughter wanted her to be a smiley lady bug. So right at the end we cut out a c shape from white paper and put a smile on her. I couldn’t manage to get a picture of our smiley lady bug as the kids took her off for playing with.
