Easy Toddler Hairstyles for Short, Medium and Fine Hair.
Toddlers are squirmy creatures who hate all activities related to self grooming. Simply running a brush through their hair can turn into an all out battlefield.
That’s why having easy toddler hairstyles is the best way to save your time and sanity.
This is especially the case on days when you want to get out the door:
1. Quickly
2. Without tears (yours or your child’s)
3. Without arguments and fights
4. With your child looking nice and presentable
5. With minimal time and effort from your side (preferably 2 minutes or less)
6. Without having to learn complicated braiding styles. I know the internet is exploding with all these cutesy, Dutch braid styles but I mean seriously…do you know the attention span of a toddler? Or how much they squirm and shriek when you try to get them to hold still? I’d rather save my energy for more useful endeavors
So without further ado, these are my 10 favorite Easy Toddler Hairstyles for Short, Medium and Fine Hair

Hairstyle #1: The Whale Spout
If your child’s hair is very short, this hairstyle looks super cute. It works well on straight, wavy and curly hair.
Simply take a comb and brush it from the front of the head, taking it back. Gather up the hair from the sides and tie it up with a hair elastic in the center of the head.
For the finishing touch, add a cute clip or hair bow.
And you’re done! In two minutes, your child will go from looking unruly and messy to downright adorable.
Hairstyle #2: The Fluffed Up Whale Spout
This one’s a slight variation of the whale spout and can be made once your toddler’s hair becomes a tiny bit longer. You start off by making a half-pony at the top of the head. Then take the ends and fold them inwards like shown below.
Secure with a pony tail and add a matching clip.
Hairstyle #3: 3 Way Pulled Back
I love how simple it is to make this hairstyle and yet how adorable it looks on tiny girls with less hair. Start off by back combing your child’s hair. Then pull a strand from the front of her head and tie it back with elastic hair bands like these. Take two more strands and do the same. That’s it, you’re done!
Another variation of this same hairstyle could be to take the remaining hair from the back and tie it up with a fancy fluffy ponytail. I like how the hair is all neatly pulled back from the face and it looks so cute!
Hairstyle #4: The Pigtail Buns
This hairstyle looks adorable on toddler girls and goes well with almost all outfits and occasions. Once again, it’s so simple and quick to make and definitely looks fancier than it actually is.
Start off by parting the hair in the middle and making two pigtails. Except tie the hair at the TOP of the head as opposed to the side. Then take one pigtail and twist it around itself, securing with another pony tail. Do the same for the other pigtail.
You can add some cute velvet heart clips on the buns to match the outfit and make it look even prettier.
Hairstyle #5: Headbands and Hairbands
In the early toddlerhood stage, your child’s hair is so short that you can’t tie it up or make any styles on it. But if you just let it be, it looks incredibly un kept.
That’s where headbands come in. You just run a comb through your kid’s hair and put on one of these adorable cotton headbands to match her outfit. As she grows older and her hair longer, you can transition from headbands to these glittery sequence hairbands.
Heads up: you will need to train her to keep it on. If your girl is anything like mine, she’ll be yanking it off every few seconds.
For days when my girls are extra cranky and don’t want me touching their hair, this is my go to option. It isn’t exactly a “hairstyle” but is a no-fuss, gets-the-job done alternative .
Which is perfect for days you need to quickly step out to get some groceries but your toddler is throwing fits about not wanting to make her hair.
Easy Toddler Hairstyles for Medium Hair
Hairstyle #6: Back Twist
This ones probably my favorite easy toddler hairstyle. It literally takes less than 2 minutes to make but looks so classy. Start off by making a side or half parting. Take a small strand from the front of the head and twist towards the back of the head. Using your other hand, do the same for the other side.
Tie both strands together with a hair elastic . And your done! Add a pretty glittery bow to make the hairstyle really stand out.
Hairstyle #7: Back Twist Knot
This ones very similar to the one above but with a knot. You take the twisted strands and you tie a knot (the way you’d tie a shoe lace). Then secure the knotted hair with an elastic band. Don’t forget to add a pretty clip.
Hairstyle #8: Inward fold
Start off by parting the hair in the middle and tieing both hair portions. Then use your hands to make a hole above the pony tail and fold the hair inwards.
Do the same for the other side and you’re done. Add two matching clips to finish off the hairstyle with style.
Hairstyle #9: The Half Pigtails
Once my girls’ hair starts getting a bit longer, I transition from the whale spout to the half pigtails. I love this hairstyle because it takes very little effort to make, it’s easy to jazz it up and it looks good on almost any occasion.
To make the hairstyle, take a comb and divide the hair into two equal parts. Take a small strand from the front of the hair and tie it up on the side. Then do the exact same for the other side.
If there’s a special occasion you can easily make this hairstyle look fancier than it really is. Simply use matching ponytails with embellishments on them like pom poms. Then take matching colored bows and put them on each side. Ta-da! In under 3 minutes you’re done, done DONE.
Hairstyle #10: The Ballerina Bun
This look is perfect for almost any occasion: a wedding, a trip to the park or a fancy dinner party. It looks particularly cute when paired with a flowy dress.
First gather up all her hair into a high ponytail and tie it up. Make sure the ponytail is in the center of her head and the hair is tangle free, particularly from the ends. Then use a hair donut (or if you don’t have one you can just use a scrunchie and slip it over the ponytail). Have your child put their head down while you cover the hair donut/scrunchie with their hair. Then use another ponytail to place around the donut.
Pick small sections of hair sticking out and start twisting it around the donut and pin it with a bobby pin. To glitz up the look for special occasions, feel free to use embellishments like feathers and flowers. And there you go. You have a gorgeous toddler hairstyle that took literally 5 minutes to make but looks terrific!
